Valley View’s campus transformed
into a track for a school wide jog-a-thon last
Wednesday.
The students ran anywhere from four
to 16 laps around the school to raise funds for the
school’s Parent Teacher Club. The club raises funds
to support technology in the classrooms, among other
things.
Donations continue to come in, so a
final tally of how much money was raised is still
being calculated. But Diana Ruslin, Valley View
Parent Teacher Club president, said any amount would
be helpful.
“We just hope that we do well,” she
said. “With the budget cuts, we’re just looking for
parents to do as much as they can.”
Part of the student involvement
included coming up with a poster and logo for the
fundraiser. Sixth-grader Melaina Valdez’s poster
design took first with her drawing of running feet.
The jog-a-thon logo of “Mega Run for Mega Bytes” was
thought up by third-grade twin brothers Cade and
Cole Wyant.

Valley View’s population of
approximately 700 student will be cut down by about 200
students next year as students switch to Rocklin’s new
elementary school, Sunset Ranch. For students that will
be attending Sunset Ranch next year, the jog-a-thon was
a chance to help their new school, too. Half of their
pledges will go with them to their new school to help
build up a Parent Teacher Club fund, Ruslin said.
“This will give them a little money to go into the
school year,” she said.
Valley View’s Parent Teacher Club fundraisers fund
programs and tools such as library books, technology in
the classrooms and educational assemblies.
The jog-a-thon is just one of many fundraisers hosted
by the Parent Teacher Club, including a school carnival,
spirit nights and school plays. |
